Summer is here, so that means it's time to get your skin ready for shorts and tank tops. I like to use a sugar scrub about once a week in the summer so my skin stays healthy. I made this coconut and calendula sugar scrub recipe because I just love my calendula soap recipe for my dry skin. The calendula is a bright yellow, which just screams summer to me. My skin gets a little sensitive when I'm in the sun, so I thought the calendula would be a great addition to a sugar scrub recipe.

The base of the recipe is coconut oil, which firms the sugar scrub. It's also antifungal and antibacterial, making this a great scrub for your feet too. I also added safflower oil because it removes dirt and oil from the skin while it traps moisture on your skin. It's a lighter oil, so your skin won't be as greasy after using it.
The star of the scrub, calendula, is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral. I used orange essential oil because it is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. Grapefruit essential oil is also anti-inflammatory, and it is anti-fungal as well.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon ground calendula
- 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
- 1/4 cup safflower oil
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 10 drops grapefruit essential oil
- 10 drops orange essential oil
Directions
- Grind the calendula with a mortar and pestle. You can turn it all into a powder or use some of the petals. If you have large flowers, you'll want to grind those.
- Use a whisk attachment to whip the coconut oil until creamy. Before you whip the oil, it should be firm. If your oil has melted, pop it in the fridge for 10-15 minutes to get it firm.
- Add the safflower oil and whip again.
- Add sugar, calendula, and essential oils and stir by hand until mixed.
To use this coconut and calendula sugar scrub recipe, use about 1/4 of a cup to gently slough off dead skin cells.
Since there isn't any water in this recipe, it will last for several months on the shelf.
