Lemon Mojito Homemade Body Scrub for Glowing Skin

How to make a lemon mojito sugar scrub recipe. This is a simple homemade body scrub for glowing skin.  It's perfect for summer with a light refreshing scent and dry carrier oils that soak into your skin quickly.

It's no secret that I love sugar scrubs. I use one on my feet every other day to keep my heels soft. I use them on my skin about once a week to keep my skin from looking dull.

In the summer, it's even more important to use one because the sweat from the heat can clog your skin. Besides that, in the summer I'm showing off more skin, so I want it to look its best.

This lemon mojito sugar scrub recipe was inspired by a summer drink, and it smells wonderful all year round. The mint is cooling on your skin, and the lemon essential oil is uplifting.

Sugar scrubs are also a great inexpensive gift to give to your friends. I used to make them for my kids' teachers when they were in public school. It's a unique gift that nearly any woman can use.

Sugar

I used turbinado sugar to make this homemade body scrub for glowing skin.  Turbinado sugar has a large particle, so it has more exfoliating power.

You can also use white table sugar, brown sugar, or even sea salt or Himalayan salt.  Personally, I find sea salt too abrasive for my skin, although I have used it for a foot scrub.

The larger the particle, the better it will scrub away dead skin cells.  However, larger particles can also be more irritating and cause redness.

I recommend using brown sugar or white sugar for sensitive skin.  You can even combine them for a custom sugar scrub recipe.

No matter which salt or sugar you use, this lemon mojito sugar scrub recipe is only meant for the body and not the face.

Carrier Oils

I used both safflower oil and fractionated coconut oil.  Both are dry oils, so they soak into the skin quickly.

Safflower oil is high in vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant.  Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals to reduce the signs of aging.

Since this is a summer scented body scrub recipe, I wanted a carrier oil with antioxidants.  Being in the sun exposes your skin to UV radiation, which produces free radicals.  Free radicals can cause signs of aging, including loss of skin elasticity.

The antioxidants in safflower oil can neutralize free radicals, which can help prevent the signs of aging.

Safflower oil is also a natural anti-inflammatory and can promote skin healing.  However, you should not use this sugar scrub recipe on broken or damaged skin.

I also used fractionated coconut oil.  Fractionated coconut oil is a liquid at room temperature, and it doesn't smell like coconuts to alter the scent of this lemon mojito sugar scrub recipe.

Fractionated coconut oil is a light oil, so it soaks into the skin quickly.  It won't clog pores either.

It's a good moisturizer due to its fat composition, and it nourishes and moisturizes your skin after spending time in the sun.

Essential Oils

I used lemon essential oil and peppermint essential oil to create a lemon mojito scent.  Lemon essential oil is an uplifting scent, and it works well in a summer homemade body scrub for glowing skin.

Lemon essential oil tones and tightens the skin.  It helps shrink large pores by clearing out the sebum that can clog pores.

Peppermint essential oil naturally cools the skin thanks to its menthol content.  It cleanses the skin and naturally kills germs.
