Warming Massage Oil Recipe With Essential Oils

Learn how to make a warming massage oil recipe with essential oils.  This is an easy recipe that uses black pepper essential oil for a warming and sensual massage that's perfect for couples.

This warming massage oil recipe with essential oils was formulated for a sensual massage with your partner, but it also works well for sore muscles.  I added black pepper essential oil for gentle warming to stimulate the skin.

This is an easy recipe, and it's perfect for Valentine's Day.  Although your partner may not enjoy a small bottle of oil, they will definitely enjoy its intended purpose!

This has a light and romantic scent with jasmine and ylang ylang essential oils.  I used a light carrier oil that soaks into the skin quickly, so you won't be greasy or oily after using it.

Essential Oils

What Essential Oils are Warming?

I used black pepper essential oil for this warming massage oil recipe.

You can also use one of the following:

You could also use the Love essential oil blend from Simply Earth.  It won't be warming, but it is sensual.  It has Amyris, Bergamot, Sweet Orange, and Ylang Ylang.

Simply Earth's Relief blend is a warming blend that can also be used for a warming massage oil recipe.

Sensual Essential Oils

There are a few essential oils that are considered sensual.  I picked jasmine essential oil and ylang ylang essential oil, but you can substitute them for one of the following.

Clary sage is the most popular essential oil for women and balancing hormones.  It's said to decrease stress hormones and help relieve PMS pain.  While there's no evidence from studies, some women say that it boosts libido.

Lavender essential oil isn't necessarily an aphrodisiac, but it is calming and relaxing.  It can calm you, which can increase arousal.

Sandalwood essential oil is said to boost libido in women and increase desire.

Ylang ylang has a pleasant scent, and it's also said to create feelings of happiness and reduce depression.

Jasmine essential oil has a romantic scent that's perfect for a warming massage oil recipe.  It's said to be an aphrodisiac and reduce depression when used in aromatherapy.  It can also act as a mild sedative to calm you.  (Jasmine is expensive, so feel free to use Clary Sage in this recipe.)

Carrier Oil for Massage Oil

Since you'll likely be using this warming massage oil recipe all over you or your partner's body, it's best to use a light carrier oil.

A dry carrier oil soaks into the skin quickly, so it won't leave your skin feeling oily for a long time.

Fractionated coconut oil is a light oil, and it doesn't feel oily or greasy when you use it topically.  It's somewhat sticky though, so keep that in mind.   It's inexpensive and has a long shelf life, too.

Jojoba oil is a heavier oil, but it soaks in quickly.  It's more expensive, so I would use this for 1/4 or 1/2 of the total recipe and combine it with another oil.

Sunflower oil is inexpensive and easy to find.  It's light, so it soaks into the skin fast.  However, sunflower oil can go rancid quicker than other oils.

Almond oil is a gentle oil.  It's a bit heavier than fractionated coconut oil or sunflower oil, but it's inexpensive and well tolerated by most skin types.

Grapeseed oil is a light and odorless, but it does have a green tint.  It may stain fabrics so keep that in mind.  It soaks in quickly and works well as a massage oil.

Apricot kernel oil is high in vitamin E, so it has a long shelf life.  It's dry and won't leave you feeling oily after you use this warming massage oil recipe.

How to Use a Massage Oil

Although this warming massage oil recipe with essential oils is meant to be a sensual massage oil, it can also feel good on sore muscles.

You can also use these sore muscle bath bombs for natural relief.

Before using a massage oil, warm your hands.  You can use the heat from friction by rubbing your hands together to warm them slightly.

Do not warm the oil in a microwave.  This can cause hot spots that can burn your partner's skin or your hands when you put it on your hands.

Put a few teaspoons of oil on your hands then warm the oil by rubbing it on your hands.  Don't drip it onto your partner's body because the oil will be colder than the skin.  This can be quite a shock, and it might kill the mood.

After you apply the oil to your hands, mold your hands to the body.  Curve your hand so the palms and fingertips are touching the body instead of using the middle of your hand.

Take your time.  Spend time in each area of the body before moving to the next part.  Use long strokes and then knead the muscles.

Aim to spend at least 30 seconds on each section.

Warming Massage Oil Recipe Notes

I formulated this warming massage oil recipe with essential oils at 0.5 percent, which is a low dilution rate.

While you can substitute the oils for other oils, do not add more than 12 drops of essential oils per 4 ounces of oils and do not increase the amount of black pepper essential oil.

This is meant to be warming and tingling, but it's not for use on sensitive areas.  The black pepper essential oil is too strong for the face or other sensitive areas.

Be careful using oils with condoms.  Even if the oil doesn't touch sensitive areas, the oil on your hands can transfer and may cause them to deteriorate.

Although the oils in this warming massage oil are edible, the essential oils are not!  Do not eat this oil.  Try edible massage oil recipe.
