Dry skin is the bane of my existence all winter long. The cold, dry air and the furnace just zap the moisture from my skin, making me itch and scratch all day long.
Luckily, I have a few tips for dry skin to prevent me from scratching until I bleed. I'll share with you my tips for dry skin and 20 of the best dry skin products for winter to keep your skin soft and moisturized.
Just using these products isn't enough to combat dry skin. You'll need to use them at least twice a day, sometimes three, and take care of your skin. I've also included some tips to help you prevent dry skin.

1. Limit baths and showers.
The hot water from baths and showers can make your dry skin worse, so be sure to limit your time in the water to 5 to 10 minutes.Use warm water instead of hot water and use a gentle cleanser with no artificial scents or dyes.
When you finish, blot your skin dry instead of rubbing it dry.
2. Moisturize.
Apply a moisturizer immediately after you bathe to trap the moisture in the skin. Reapply moisturizer after washing your hands too.I keep a bottle of moisturizer in my bath just so I remember to reapply it.
3. Creams or ointments.
Creams and ointments are thicker, so they are more effective than lotions. When looking for a moisturizer, look for ones with jojoba oil, shea butter, lactic acid, glycerin, or lanolin in the ingredients.4. Use gentle products.
Avoid using soaps, sprays, or lotions with artificial fragrances or dyes because these can irritate your skin. Also avoid using products with alcohol because it can be drying.5. Avoid heating with fire.
Fires are warm and cozy, but they can really dry out your skin. If you do have to heat with a fire, set dishes of water on your registers if the heat goes through the register to get moisture in the air.If you're using a fireplace, use a humidifier to add moisture to the air. I've even hung laundry on a drying rack to get moisture in the air during the winter. Sometimes my clothes dry in just an hour because the house is so dry!
