Solid Essential Oil Carrier Oil Stick Recipe

It's no secret that I love using different carrier oils for their unique properties.  After all, they are the topic of my first book, Carrier Oils: A beginner's guide to using over 40 carrier oils in bath and body recipes.  I use carrier oils in my DIY beauty recipes for their skin and hair benefits.

Carrier oils are so named because they carry things, like essential oils.  If you use essential oil topically, you need to know how to mix essential oils with carrier oils to use them properly.  The problem with using a carrier oil is that they can spill.  They aren't easy to take with you, and they are difficult to apply on the go without making a mess.  The solution?  This solid essential oil carrier stick recipe.

This is one of the easiest DIY beauty recipes to make because the recipe is easy to remember.  You'll use shea butter, beeswax, and a carrier oil in equal parts.  For this recipe, I used sweet almond oil because it's a great all purpose oil.  It's also fairly inexpensive, so I have quite a bit of it.  You could use safflower oil, grapeseed oil, or even olive oil.

For this recipe, you'll want to weigh the ingredients using a digital scale.  I made three 1-ounce containers, so I used one ounce of each ingredient.  You can make as much or as little as you want, as long as you use them in the same amounts.

I prefer to use a push tube for this recipe so I can apply the carrier oil completely hands free.  You could use a small jar, but then you'd get your hands dirty.  I used a 1-ounce brown kraft push-up tube from SKS Bottle.  I like the paper tubes because they are biodegradable.  They have a wax coating, so the paper won't dissolve when you fill them.  You can also use a plastic push up tube  or even a lip balm tube.

Making Solid Essential Oil Carrier Oil Sticks

Ingredients

To make the recipe, just place the shea butter and the beeswax in a double boiler and heat until melted.  You'll want to stir it every few minutes to help the beeswax break up and start to melt.

Once it's melted, add the carrier oil and stir.  Pour in to the container and let sit until it hardens.

To use your solid essential oil carrier oil stick, just swipe it across your skin and add your desired essential oil.  That's it!
