I'm moving toward natural beauty products, and I'm making an effort to choose cruelty free where possible. This was relatively painless with my skin care and makeup because there are so many options available for natural and cruelty free products.
But natural hair care proved to be a bit of a challenge. It's harder to find natural hair care products. I tried some brands that weren't a good fit for me, but then I found Pureland Beauty natural vegan shampoo, conditioner, and heat protectant.
Switching my skin care was an easy transition, but switching to natural hair care takes a little bit of getting used to. Here is what to expect when you make the switch.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU SWITCH TO NATURAL HAIR CARE
WHY SWITCH?
One of the reasons that I've switched to using natural plant-based beauty products is that I want to know exactly what's in the products that I'm using. I want natural and eco-friendly ingredients, and I don't want to use ingredients that have been linked to causing endocrine disruption or skin irritation.
WHAT INGREDIENTS SHOULD YOU LOOK FOR?
Generally, you want to look for a list of ingredients that you can pronounce. Although there are some natural ingredients that have long names, but generally you'll recognize most of the ingredients.
I like Pureland Beauty because they are cruelty-free and 100 percent plant based. The herbal ingredients are vegan and don't have any chemical impurities.
There are also some ingredients that you'll probably want to avoid. I like to avoid preservatives, fragrances, dyes, parabens, and phthalates. Sulfates, which are added to shampoos to boost lather, can irritate my skin too. Pureland Beauty has parabens or sulfate.
LATHER
One of the biggest differences between natural hair care and other hair care is the lather in the shampoo. As I mentioned, sulfates are usually added to boost lather.
Lather is fun, and you feel like you can see the shampoo working, but they aren't necessary for the shampoo to work. The Pureland Cleansing Dew has Saponaria Officinalis, which is an herb that works as a natural soap like product.
It does give some lather, but it's much smaller than other shampoos and not as much. Again, lather is really only added for our visual benefit and doesn't cleanse our skin or hair better.
If you do miss the lather or don't feel clean without, wash your hair, rinse, and wash again. the second wash will have more lather.
I almost always wash my hair twice with about half as much shampoo as I'd usually use. It seems to get my scalp and super thick hair cleaner.
THINNER
Natural shampoos and conditioners are usually thinner because they don't have thickeners in them. These thickeners aren't necessary for the product to work, but do be aware that natural products are thinner.
TAKE TIME TO ADJUST
When you switch to a natural shampoo, your hair may feel oily for a few days. Just be sure to give your scalp a few days to adjust its oil production. Also make sure you rinse really well because residual shampoo and conditioner can weigh down your hair.
PURELAND BEAUTY REVIEW
I tried the Pureland Beauty Balance Cleansing Dew for normal to oily scalp and the Enrich Daily Conditioner for normal to dry hair. My scalp tends to be oily while my hair is dry, so I love that I can get a shampoo for my scalp and a conditioner for my hair. Both are color safe, which is important for my since I have three colors in my hair.
I've been using them for a while now, and I love them. My hair did need a few days to adjust. It was oily for the first few days before my scalp figured out it didn't need to produce as much oil. Now my dry hair feels so soft!
I also tried the Therapy Blow Cream. It helps heal, smooth, protect, and shine without weighing down my hair. I use it before I blow dry my hair or use a flat iron to protect my hair.
I'm a hardcore Amazon shopper, and I love that I can get Pureland Beauty on Amazon and get it delivered to my door.
Even the boxes Pureland Beauty use are from recycled paper. I'm a big advocate for recycling, so I appreciate their help in reducing waste.
