Easter Solid Sugar Scrub Soap Cubes Recipe

This Easter peep solid sugar scrub soap cube recipe is so cute!  It's like a soap and sugar scrub in one, so it exfoliates as you cleanse.

Why is Easter so late this year?  I've been ready to post fun, cute, and pastel things for a while now.  I can't wait until Easter to share them, so I'm sharing them now.

I found this adorable Easter inspired mold last month, and I knew that I had to be something with sugar because of the holiday.  I decided on a solid sugar scrub soap cube recipe because I haven't made one in a while.

Solid sugar scrub cubes are so nice because they are convenient.  You use them in the shower like soap, but they exfoliate while you're washing for softer skin.

I also added some glycerin and a carrier oil for more moisture.  In the winter, you probably need to add moisture because heating is very drying for your skin.  In the summer, chlorine and the sun dry out your skin.

So these solid sugar scrub cubes are perfect for any time of the year.  I added some vanilla essential oil, but you can use any essential oil or fragrance oil that you like.

EASTER PEEP SOLID SUGAR SCRUB SOAP CUBES RECIPE

SUGAR

I just used regular white sugar for these solid sugar scrub soap cubes.  It's inexpensive and easy to find it stores, and it works just fine for sugar scrubs.

You can also use raw sugar, which is courser.  I generally use raw sugar for feet or hands, but you could use it on the body, too.

SOAP

I added clear melt and pour soap to make these a sugar scrub soap.  The soap is what makes these solid.

I used Crafty Bubbles melt and pour soap.  You can use clear or white, but I like the look of clear in this recipe.

SWEET ALMOND OIL

I added some sweet almond oil for a little extra moisturizing power.  Sweet almond is oil is my favorite all purpose carrier oil.

It's high in vitamins A and E for your skin.  Vitamin E is an antioxidant, so it can help reduce free radicals that cause signs of aging.

It also has fatty acids that moisturize the skin and can help heal dry or chapped skin.

Sweet almond oil isn't a dry oil, but it's not very heavy either.  It won't leave you feeling oily after you use it.

You could also use fractionated coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or sunflower oil in this recipe.

Learn more about the different carrier oils and their benefits in my books Carrier Oils.

GLYCERIN

Melt and pour soap has glycerin in it, but I wanted some extra to help my skin.  Glycerin is an emollient, so it softens the skin.

Glycerin is gentle for the skin, so it's great to use on irritated or dry skin.  It's non-greasy and helps naturally reduce inflammation

ESSENTIAL OIL

I knew I wanted a light and fun scent for this solid sugar scrub cube recipe, but I wasn't sure what I wanted.

These remind me of peeps and have sugar in them, so the first thing I thought of was cotton candy.  Pink cotton candy has vanilla in it, so vanilla essential oil it was.

I think this would be nice with any of the following essential oils:
  • Bergamot
  • Jasmine
  • Ylang ylang
  • Lemon
  • Lavender
I think these would be absolutely amazing in Pink Sugar.  That is hands down my favorite fragrance oil.  It smells like cotton candy with a hint of musk.  It is ah-mazing!

MICA

I used mica to color these, but you can also use a soap colorant.

This is the set of mica that I bought.  It has a wide selection of colors.  There aren't too many in each bag, but this will last me for several years before I run out.

MOLD

I highly suggest using a silicone mold for these solid sugar scrub soap cubes.  I poured the extra into a plastic mold and had a hard time getting them out.

I used this cute Wilton Easter Bunny mold.  It reminds me of little Peeps.

Funny story, I wanted the actual Peep mold, but I found three other molds instead.  I didn't want to buy a lot of extra molds, so I didn't order it.

I poured these into the bunny mold and went to the store while they set up.  Guess what I found?  Yep, the peep mold on clearance for $3.

So look for that mold with a different DIY in a few weeks!

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 ounces sugar
  • 5.5 ounces melt and pour soap
  • 3 ounces sweet almond oil (or other carrier oil)
  • 1.5 ounces glycerin
  • .4 ounces essential oil or fragrance oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mica

DIRECTIONS

STEP #1

Use a digital scale to weigh the sugar.  Place in a medium to large bowl.

STEP #2

Weigh the sweet almond oil, glycerin, and fragrance oil and add to the sugar.  Stir well.

STEP #3

Weigh the soap on a digital scale and cut into small cubes.  Melt at 30 second intervals in the microwave until melted.

Use a laser thermometer to check the temperature.  Pour it into the sugar mixture when it is below 180 degrees before you add it to the sugar mixture so the essential oil doesn't burn off.

STEP #4

Carefully pour or spoon the melted soap mixture into a silicone mold.  Fill them completely.

If it sets up while you're pouring, just heat it for about 10-15 seconds to remelt the soap.

This made enough to fill the mold plus some extra.  You can pour it in a rectangle mold.

STEP #5

Let sit until completely cooled off, about two hours.

In full disclosure, this is what I got when I unmolded mine.  It looked like a hot mess!

I used a knife to carefully trim the edges off to clean them up.  They look so cute now!

Use like you would a bar of soap.  You can use it all over your body or just for your hands or feet.
