This solid lotion bar recipe is made with dandelion infused chia seed oil for serious moisture. Dandelion infused oil has many benefits for your skin, and this is excellent for dry skin, especially on your hands and feet.
You guys, it is May, and I am still fighting dry skin. Pretty soon, my skin will be dry from the sun and chlorine in the pool, so I don't think I'm going to get relief any time soon.
I have a homemade lotion that I made with shea butter and hemp seed oil that is working well, but I don't like taking a lotion with me because I don't want it to spill in my purse. I love solid lotion bar recipes because they are easy to take with you and don't spill.
I think the solid lotion offers more moisturizing power for severely dry skin because there is no water. Every ingredient in this recipe was selected just for dry skin.
If you're new to lotion bars, they are a great beginning DIY recipe because they don't have a lot of ingredients. They don't have water, so there's no need for a preservative or emulsifier.
Since it's currently dandelion season, I used a dandelion infused oil. When you infuse herbs or flowers in a carrier oil, you get the benefits of the herb or flower along with the benefits of the oil.
Infusing an oil with dandelions is also mess free. To get the benefits of the dandelion flowers, you'd have to dry them and add them to the lotion. This can get messy as you use the solid lotion, so I don't usually do this.
DANDELION SOLID LOTION BAR RECIPE
DANDELION INFUSED OIL
Dandelions have so many benefits for the skin! They can help nourish the skin with vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C and E.
Dandelions are also a natural anti-inflammatory and can help boost skin cell regeneration.
I have an entire blog post devoted to dandelion oil benefits and uses and how to make it, so read that to make your oil and then come back here to make this dandelion solid lotion bar recipe.
It will take one to three weeks to make your dandelion infused oil, so plan early when you make this recipe.
You can also buy dandelion infused oil on Etsy. Find dried dandelions on Etsy to make this when they aren't in season.
Learn more about dandelions in the Foraging Course from the Herbal Academy. You'll learn about more than 20 plants and get several recipes to use them in.
CARRIER OIL
I used chia seed oil for this solid lotion bar. Chia seed is a heavy oil, so it will leave your skin feeling greasy. As I said, my skin is crazy dry, so I need a heavy oil.
If you don't want a heavy oil or want a non-greasy solid lotion bar recipe, try using sweet almond oil, apricot oil, or fractionated coconut oil.
Learn more about different carrier oils and their benefits in my book Carrier Oils.
BUTTERS
You can use shea butter, mango butter, or cocoa butter in this recipe. I used both shea butter and mango butter because I love both of them.
Shea butter is high in vitamins that your skin loves. It's also anti-inflammatory and is said to boost collagen production. It's not greasy, so it balances with the chia seed oil that I used.
Mango butter is great for dry skin and eczema, which I have on my hands. It adds moisture and is great for anti-aging.

BEESWAX
Beeswax is what makes this a solid lotion bar recipe, but it also has some important skin benefits. Beeswax forms a barrier on top of your skin, and it traps moisture against your skin.
It softens and hydrates the skin, making it a great ingredient for dry skin. It's also anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial.
ESSENTIAL OILS
I used helichrysum, frankincense, and neroli in this dandelion solid lotion bar recipe, and I love this blend. I've had the neroli for about a month and haven't used it, but I'm pretty sure it will be one of my new favorites.
I used helichrysum because it's high in powerful antioxidants. It also acts like a natural steroid to reduce inflammation on the skin. It's a great oil for dry skin or for scars.
Frankincense essential oil helps protect the skin, and it's a natural astringent. It can help tone and tighten the skin. It's also said to promote smoother skin and help boost skin cell regeneration.
Neroli smells amazing, and it's wonderful for your skin. It helps boost the elasticity of the skin and can help regenerate skin cells. It's also naturally antibacterial.
I used Crafty Bubbles essential oils.
MOLD
You can use any mold for this dandelion solid lotion bar recipe. I used the Rosanna Pansino gemstone mold. This is a cute mold and the perfect size for solid lotion bars.
INGREDIENTS
- 3.5 ounces dandelion infused chia seed oil (or buy here)
- 3.5 ounces shea butter or mango butter
- 3 ounces beeswax
- 60 drops essential oils (I used helichrysum, frankincense, and neroli)
DIRECTIONS
STEP #1
Combine the shea butter or mango butter, dandelion infused oil, and beeswax in a double boiler.
I use a Pyrex measuring cup and set it on canning jar rings in a pan of water. The rings elevate it so it's not touching the bottom of the pan.
I don't recommend microwaving shea butter because it can get gritty.
STEP #2
Heat over medium heat until the beeswax is melted, about 15 to 20 minutes. Stir frequently to help the beeswax fully melt.
STEP #3
Carefully remove the measuring cup from the heat and let it cool until it is under 180 degrees. Add the essential oils and stir for a minute.
I use a laser thermometer to check the temperature because there's no mess.
STEP #4
Pour into the mold of your choice. Let sit until cool and hardened. They will pop right out of the mold.
Now you have cute little dandelion solid lotion bars. These are excellent for dry or cracked skin. I keep one on my night stand just for my feet.
This mold is so cute, too. These are a great size, too. Not too big, and not too small.
I used a Baby Foot foot peel two years ago. Now I just use lotions and solid lotions like this to keep my feet soft and ready for the summer.
If your heels are dry or cracked, the Baby Foot is the best way to get soft feet fast. I used it and nothing happened...until a few days later. Then all of my skin peeled off, leaving super soft skin. It's gross, but it works!
I hope you enjoy this dandelion solid lotion bar recipe! I'll have a dandelion lip balm recipe posted soon, too, so be sure to check back for that. Try my dandelion salve recipe for a softer recipe made with dandelion infused oil.
