How to make a lilac infused toner recipe for most skin types and especially acne prone skin.
I have large pores and skin that ranges from a little oily to a lot oily, so toner is my BFF. I use it morning and night after washing to deep clean my pores.
Even though I have oily skin, it's not acne prone. I lucked out in that I never really dealt with much acne. I do have a teenager though, so I wanted to make a DIY toner recipe for acne prone skin.
I'm calling this a toner for acne prone oily skin, but I've been using it and loving it, too. I've made several toners and used a lot of brands, and this is up there with my favorite toner ever.
A few weeks ago, I infused lilacs in a carrier oil and also in witch hazel. As I was researching lilacs and their benefits, I knew they would be perfect for acne prone skin because they are antibacterial and antifungal.
Although most acne is caused by bacteria, fungi can also cause acne. The lilacs and the essential oils in this recipe will take care of both, so your skin is definitely covered there.

The star of this recipe is lilac infused witch hazel. By infusing the witch hazel, you get the benefits of the lilacs and the benefits of witch hazel.
Since lilacs have a short growing season, you probably don't have access to dried lilac flowers.
Luckily, you can buy them already dried on Etsy so you can make your own infusion.

Before we get started, I must warn you can this is not the best smelling toner. Lilac infused witch hazel, unfortunately, doesn't smell like lilacs. It has a faint floral scent, but I wouldn't call it a lilac.
Apple cider vinegar has a strong scent, but it goes away quickly. When I use this, it gets a little strong at first, but it only lasts a few minutes.
Tea tree oil isn't my favorite smelling oil, but it works very well for this DIY toner for acne prone oily skin.
Even though this isn't a great smelling toner recipe, it more than makes up for that in performance. This is by far my favorite toner that I've made.
Before this, I was using the DERMA E Radiance Toner and really liked it. I used it up, and I was looking for something that was gentle yet powerful enough to get all the excess oil off of my skin.
You know how you use a toner on a cotton ball and the cotton ball gets more dirt off of your skin and turns dark? The DERMA E toner turned darkest, so it got a lot more dirt and debris off of my skin after cleansing.
This lilac infused toner for acne prone oily skin gets as much ick off of my face as that toner. I've experimented with different cleansers and used it after exfoliating to make sure it wasn't something else or the combination of products, but this toner was consistent in getting off more dirt.
My skin also feels so soft and smooth after I use this toner.

RAW APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Although stinky, raw apple cider vinegar makes an excellent toner.
There's an acid mantle on your skin that protects your skin. It has a pH of around 5. Cleansers can change the pH balance, but apple cider vinegar helps restore that balance.
ACV is also antibacterial and antifungal, so it can help reduce acne.
If you have sensitive skin, use half as much ACV in this recipe and add more water.
