As soon as the dandelions started popping up, my daughter picked me a bunch of dandelions to dry. I hadn't planned on making dandelion infused oil this year, but now I'm glad I did. I made this dandelion body butter, and I love it!
I originally wanted to make this body butter for pain relief. After I made it, I discovered how amazing it is for dry skin.
This is an easy recipe to make at home since it doesn't require a preservative. You just need coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter to make the body butter. I also added arrowroot powder so it's non greasy and essential oils for their skin benefits.
Dandelion Body Butter Recipe
When I researched dandelion oil and it's benefits last year, one thing that kept popping up was pain relief. I made a pain relief salve with copaiba a few weeks ago. I really like it and think it works great, but it leaves my neck greasy. My hair is crazy long right now, and my hair was sticking to it.
It's a minor inconvenience, but I wanted to make something that wouldn't leave me greasy so I could use it on my neck and my hands since I'm having problems with the tendons in my hands now.
I was going to make a lotion. I have a lotion base that I use and love, but it's not available online yet. Hopefully soon!
If you make a lotion from scratch, you'll need a preservative since it had water in it. Some of my readers to make and sell my recipes, but most of my readers are using my recipes for home use. I know that many of you who try this recipe won't have a preservative and are looking for easy recipes.
So I decided to make a body butter instead. I originally wanted this to be a pain relief body butter. I used it on my hands for my tendons, and then I noticed that my eczema spot looked better than it had in months.
I knew that lavender and frankincense were great for skin, especially for eczema and dry skin, but I didn't realize how good copaiba was, too. I bought copaiba purely for its pain relief properties, so it's a bonus that it's also good for dry skin.
Dandelion Infused Oil
Last year, I devoted an entire post to dandelion oil benefits, uses, and how to make it. Dandelions are full of vitamins and minerals that are great for your skin. Dandelion are also proven to promote skin cell regeneration, so this dandelion body butter is excellent for dry skin.
Click over to that post to learn how to make dandelion infused oil. It's not hard, but it's too much information for this post since I want to focus on the other ingredients.

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a great natural moisturizer. It can be too heavy on its own and can clog pores for some people, but most people generally tolerate coconut oil in a whipped body butter since it's mixed with other butters.
Coconut oil hydrates the skin for a full day, so you'll reap the benefits long after you use this body butter. Coconut oil is also said to boost skin elasticity and collagen production.
It's high an antioxidants like Vitamin E and Vitamin A. Both can help reduce sun damage and damage from free radicals.
Shea Butter
Shea butter is my favorite skin butter. It's high in fatty acids and vitamins to promote skin health. It's naturally anti-inflammatory and has healing properties for your skin.
It's also said to help tone the skin and soothe irritations. It moisturizes your skin and helps create a protective barrier on top of your skin to lock in that moisture for hours after you use it.

Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter is another great oil for dry skin. Like shea butter, it forms a protective barrier on top of the skin. This helps trap the other ingredients to your skin so they work longer.
Cocoa butter has phytochemicals that can boost blood flow to the area and protect the skin from UV light damage.
Arrowroot Powder
The secret to making a non greasy body butter is to add arrowroot powder. Arrowroot skin benefits also makes this body butter feel silky smooth on your skin.
Essential Oils
As I mentioned, I originally made this dandelion body butter recipe for pain relief. I chose copaiba essential oil, lavender essential oil, and frankincense essential oils.
All of these oils are excellent for dry skin and eczema, so this can also be used for those conditions. I also have an eczema body butter recipe with aloe, so check that out if you are making it just for eczema.
Copaiba essential oil is said to be similar to CBD oil for natural pain relief. I've used both Notion CBD lotion and copaiba salve, and I prefer the CBD lotion. However, copaiba does a good job; it's just not quite as good as CBD for me.
Copaiba is a natural anti-inflammatory. This can help with pain relief and with dry skin, which can be inflamed.
Copaiba essential oil is also said to promote skin healing and reduce inflammation. It's a very gentle oil, so it's well tolerated by most people.
Lavender essential oil is also a gentle oil. It's a relaxing oil when used in aromatherapy. Topically, it is a natural microbial oil and can reduce inflammation naturally. It's said to promote healing.
Frankincense essential oil is also fairly gentle and great for dry skin. It's said to promote smooth skin and promote cellular turnover.
I used a 0.5 percent dilution so I could use this daily on large areas. If you are using this just on small areas or occasionally, you can use a 1 percent dilution or even a 2 percent for short term use. Use 48 drops for a 1 percent dilution and 96 drops for a 2 percent dilution.
