Father's Day is coming up, so I wanted to share a DIY for men. My husband doesn't have a beard, but he isn't always clean shaven either.
Shaving irritates his skin. Since men don't generally put much effort into skin care as women do, I took it upon myself to make him a beard oil that also doubles as a face oil.
I added a face oil to my daily skin care routine last year. It's made such a difference in my skin, so I made a face oil/beard oil just for him.
If your man has a beard, this will moisturize it so it looks and feels healthy. If he doesn't have a beard, this is a good oil to use for the skin.
Beard Oil for Men Recipe
Simply Earth June 2020 Recipe Box
This beard oil recipe was inspired by the June 2020 Simply Earth Recipe Box. If you aren't familiar with the recipe box, it's a monthly box subscription that includes 4 bottles of oils and supplies to make 6 different DIY recipes.
The June 2020 box includes:
Bumps and Boo-boos is a blend of Helichrysum, Lavender, Tea Tree, and Lemon. It's a great skin care blend, and I'm sure I'll be using it often in upcoming recipes.
Timber is Simply Earth's new blend for men's skin care. It's what I'm using in my beard oil recipe. It's a blend of Cypress, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Peru Balsam, and Mandarin.
You'll use these oils and ingredients along with the supplies from the free Bonus Box to make:
- Digest Help Roll On
- Sleek and Smooth Shaving Butter
- Calendula Solar Infused Oil
- Stress Blend
- Skin Healing Gel
- Burn Salve
These are all great recipes, but I wanted to show you how to create additional recipes from the boxes. You'll have some extra supplies left after making the recipes, and this is one recipe that will use those supplies.
I am using the calendula infused oil and Timber to make this beard oil recipe. The Bonus Box comes with sweet almond oil and fractionated coconut oil, and you can use either one to make this DIY for men.
Simply Earth also has an Essential Oil Hero Course and Kit. For $249, you get the Hero Kit with 12 oils, carrier oils, and supplies. Plus you get a full course on how to use your essential oils and access to a private Facebook group and more.
Carrier Oils
This is an easy beard oil recipe, but you'll need to choose a good carrier oil. The Simply Earth bonus box has fractionated coconut oil and sweet almond oil. Both are good oil choices.
Fractionated coconut oil is a light oil, so it penetrates quickly into the skin and doesn't clog pores. It's good for dry or irritated skin and helps create a barrier on the skin without clogging the pores.
Sweet almond oil is also considered a dry oil, so it soaks in quickly. It's good for dry skin and has vitamins A and E for the skin.
You can also use argan oil or jojoba oil.
Calendula Infused Oil
The June box has dried calendula, and one of the DIYs is to make a calendula infused oil. I used mine to make this beard oil recipe.
Calendula is a gentle oil, and it's great for the skin. You can learn more about how to make calendula infused oil, its benefits, and how to use it from a previous post.
You can also buy calendula infused oil on Etsy to make this beard oil recipe.
Timber Essential Oil Blend
Timber is a brand new essential oil blend from Simply Earth. I like blends because they are easy to use and less expensive than buying each individual oil by itself.
Timber Essential Oil Blend is a gentle blend perfect for DIY skincare products. It's antibacterial and soothing to the skin. It has a woody & vanilla aroma that is masculine without being overpowering.
Timber is excellent in DIY skin care recipes. It is calming for the skin, yet it is strong enough to help prevent acne.
The carrier oils and the essential oils that I used are good for both the beard and skin. If your man has a beard, there's no worry about getting this on his skin, too.
And if he doesn't have a beard, he can use this on his skin to reduce irritation and soothe his skin.
Printable Label
I made both a round and a square label; both sized a 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches. You can download the file and then resize to fit your bottles.
I print on cardstock and run through my Xyron sticker maker or print directly on sticker paper.
