I wanted a fun essential oil blend for my glitter bath bombs, so I used one of my fun essential oil blends that smell like candyun essential oil blends that smell like candy.
I used the Fruit Loops blend, which is:
- 2 drops lemongrass essential oil
- 2 drops sweet orange essential oil
- 2 drops lemon essential oil

You can dry bath bombs in the fridge for about an hour or less. If you leave them in longer than that, they can draw moisture from the air. This can cause them to activate and cause warts on the outside of the bath bomb.
If you can unmold them without putting them in the fridge, that is preferred. However, if it is very warm and the coconut oil is not setting up, then you can place them in the fridge for a little bit.
How Long Should Bath Bombs Dry Before Packing?
Let your bath bomb recipe with kaolin clay dry for 24 to 48 hours before packaging. This is to ensure that all of the moisture is out of them.
Glitter Bath Bomb Tips and Tricks
It takes time to get the hang of molding bath bombs. If you pack them too loose, they will fall apart. Too tight and they can get stuck in the mold. If they fall apart as soon as you umold them, you can try again. You may need to add more witch hazel.
Place the bath bomb powder on each half of the mold and mound up the powder. Then press the sides together, but do not twist.
You can put a few drops of cyclomethicone in each side of the mold. Swirl around and drain out any excess. This helps the bath bombs unmold easier.
If you want to let these DIY glitter bath bombs dry in the mold but only have a few molds, you can unmold one side and then let them dry in the other half of the mold.
Water will activate your bath bombs. Humidity in the air can also activate them. For best results, make bath bombs with kaolin clay on a day that it is not raining.
Humidity in the air can affect how much liquid you add to your glitter bath bomb recipe. You may need more or less than what is called for in the recipe.

- Bath bomb molds
- Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol or witch hazel
- Large mixing bowl
- 2 small mixing bowls
- 1 small shallow bowl
How to Make a Glitter Bath Recipe
To make your glitter bath bomb recipe, follow these steps:
Step #1
In a large mixing bowl, combine baking soda, citric acid, arrowroot powder or cornstarch, kaolin clay, and dead sea salts.
Step #2
Melt the coconut oil and drizzle over the dry ingredients. Add the polysorbate 80, essential oils, and 1 tablespoon of biodegradable glitter. Mix well with gloved hands. It should feel like wet sand.
Step #3
Separate the glitter bath bomb mixture between two small bows. Add purple mica to one bowl and green mica to the other one. Stir well.
Step #4
Put purple bath bomb mixture on one half of your bath bomb mold and green bath bombs mixture on the other half of the mold. Do not press down the mixture, but have some mounded over the mold to allow for pressing the mixture into the mold.
If your mixture gets too dry, spray with rubbing alcohol to rewet it.
Step #5
Press the two halves of the mold together. Then tap the mold gently to release the mold. Unmold the bath bomb and let sit for 24 hours or until hard.
Step #6
Once the bath bombs are hard, spritz with rubbing alcohol and roll in white biodegradable glitter. This makes the glitter bath bombs look like they were rolled in sugar.
