Rose clay, also called pink clay, is a type of kaolin clay. Kaolin clay is a gentle clay that's suitable for most skin types.

It doesn't absorb as much oil as other clays like green clay or bentonite clay, but it does exfoliate and absorb some oils.

Rose clay gets its pink hue from iron oxides that naturally occur in the clay. The benefits of rose clay are good for all skin types because it's a gentle clay.

Pink clay doesn't absorb as well as green clay or bentonite clay. I have oily skin, and those are my two favorite clays to use.

However, I still use kaolin clay and pink clay because there are rose clay benefits for skin. Rose clay is gentle on your skin. It doesn't leave my face red like bentonite clay does after I use a mask.

Yes, adding clay to melt and pour soap is a great way to get rose clay benefits for skin. Melt and pour soap is easy to work with, so it's a popular way to make soap.

There are some tricks for making melt and pour soap recipe with clay, however. For the best benefits of rose clay, you'll need to make a slurry. More on that below.

What is Clay Soap Good For?

Adding clay to melt and pour soap helps you get rose clay benefits all over your body. It gently exfoliates as you wash.

The clay also absorbs oil, but since the soap isn't on your skin for long, I'm not sure how much oil it absorbs. I use it mainly for the silica content and exfoliating.

How to Add Clay to Melt and Pour Soap

If you just put clay into melt and pour soap, it will clump. It will be almost impossible to stir the clumps out to have a smooth bar of soap.

Before adding clay to melt and pour soap, you'll have to make a slurry of sorts. I also add arrowroot powder to make it easier to get smooth. Learn more about arrowroot powder benefits for skin.

Do this by combining the clay with rubbing alcohol in a small dish. Then add the clay mixture to the melted soap base.

The rubbing alcohol will smell strong, but the smell will dissipate quickly. Don't worry, you'll be able to smell the essential oils in this melt and pour soap recipe with clay.

How Much Clay to add to Melt and Pour Soap

Generally, you can add 1 teaspoon of clay per pound of melt and pour soap. You can try to add more, but if you add too much the soap will be difficult to work with.

Rose Clay Soap Essential Oils

I used Tranquility and Sweet Orange essential oils. Tranquility is a blend of Lemon, Patchouli, Sweet Orange, Amyris, and Ylang Ylang essential oils. It's calming and promotes feelings of contentment.

Sweet Orange is also uplifting. They smell really good together, perfect for a melt and pour soap recipe with clay.

This rose clay melt and pour soap would also be wonderful with Lava essential oil blend, Peace and Quiet blend, or Happy Joy blend.

Rose Clay Melt and Pour Soap Ingredients

I adapted this recipe from the Simply Earth recipe. Their recipe called for making pink soap and placing that in the mold and pouring clear soap over it. I wanted a solid bar.

I also doubled the recipe to make two bars. Their soap mold is adorable, but I wanted to make rose shaped soaps.

The mold that I used isn't available anymore, but this rose soap mold would be really cute.

I dusted the mold with white, green, and pink mica. This is optional. It just gives the soap a bit more texture and a fun effect.

To make a melt and pour soap recipe with clay, you will need:

Melt and pour soap base - I used clear melt and pour, but you can use white melt and pour
Arrowroot powder
Rose clay
Rubbing alcohol
Tranquility essential oil blend
Sweet Orange essential oil
Soap Mold
Mica

Melt and Pour Soap Recipe With Clay Directions

Step #1

In a small bowl, combine the arrowroot powder, rose clay, and rubbing alcohol. Stir well and set aside.

Step #2

Sprinkle white, pink, and green mica on the mold. Then blow across it to move the mica so it spreads out. I took my mold outside, but you can do this over the trash can too.

Step #3

Cut the soap into small chunks. Microwave in 30 second intervals until melted.

Step #4

Pour the rose clay slurry into the melted soap. Stir well. Add essential oils and stir well.

Step #5

Carefully pour the soap into the mold. Let sit undisturbed until cool, about two hours. Then carefully unmold.
