An essential oil diffuser bracelet works by slowly releasing essential oils over several hours. You apply essential oils to the beads or other part of the bracelet. They absorb the oils.

Over the next few hours, the essential oils evaporate, releasing the scent. Your DIY diffuser bracelet should last for several hours with each application. However, you will have to reapply the essential oils after a few hours.

I like to use an aromatherapy bracelet DIY because then my oils travel with me if I leave the room or leave the house. You can also add oils to a bracelet without worrying about diffusing oils that may not be safe for those in the home.

For example, you can't diffuse an oil that isn't kid safe, but diffuser jewelry is generally considered safer. That said, I wouldn't use a diffuser bracelet or necklace if I will be holding a baby because the oils can still be too strong.

Do Diffuser Bracelets Work?

Yes, this essential oil diffuser bracelet does work to slowly release essential oils. It's not as strong as using a diffuser because it's a passive diffuser.

What Are Essential Oil Bracelets Made Of?

This DIY diffuser bracelet is similar to a regular bracelet, but it has beads that absorb essential oils and then slowly release the oils as they evaporate.

What Beads are Used for Diffuser Bracelets?

I used wood beads for my DIY essential oil diffuser bracelet, but you can also use lava stones or clay beads.

You'll want to use a porous material that will absorb the oils and let it evaporate to work as a diffuser. Sealed beads that can't absorb the essential oils won't work for a DIY diffuser bracelet.

What Essential Oils are Good for Bracelets?

I used mine for a DIY mosquito repellent bracelet, but you can use yours for any aromatherapy benefits or even as a natural perfume. Here's a natural solid perfume recipe with essential oils for another perfume option.

How Do You Make a DIY Bug Repellent Bracelet?

To learn how to make a mosquito repellent bracelet, follow the same steps but use bug repellent essential oils. I used a blend of eucalyptus, lemongrass, and citronella.

I used my essential oil blending factor worksheets to create a bug repellent blend with 5 drops eucalyptus, 4 drops citronella, and 1 drop lemongrass and put that in a 5 ml bottle to use.

If you don't want to make your own blend, you can use Bug Fighter from Simply Earth, Nature Shield from Plant Therapy, Bug Blend from Mountain Rose Herbs, or Bugs Away from Revive.

How Do You Dilute Essential Oils for Bracelets?

You can add 1 to 2 drops of essential oils directly to the bracelet to make a DIY essential oil bracelet. However, I don't recommend adding oils while you're wearing the bracelet in case the undiluted oils get on your skin.

You can also learn how to make essential oil roller bottle that's diluted with a carrier oil and roll that on the beads while you're wearing the essential oil diffuser bracelet.

Where Do You Put the Oil on a Diffuser Bracelet?

You can add the essential oils directly to the wood beads on your DIY essential oil diffuser bracelet. They will absorb the oils. When the oils evaporate, they release the aroma from the oils.

Can You Reuse a DIY Essential Oil Bracelet?

Yes, you can reuse your aromatherapy bracelet DIY. If you want to change oils, you can simply add the different oils to the beads.

If your bracelet starts to smell funky due to too many oils, swish it in a mixture of 1 part water and 1 part vinegar. Let dry completely before using your DIY diffuser bracelet again.

DIY Essential Oil Bracelet Supplies

You will need the following to make an aromatherapy bracelet DIY:

Wood beads or lava beads
Hemp cord
2 drops essential oils

How Do You Make an Essential Oil Bracelet?

Step #1

Start by arranging the beads in the pattern you want to use for your bracelet. I arranged mine in a pattern for a symmetrical bracelet.

Step #2

Cut the hemp cord. I wrapped mine around my wrist and cut it twice as long as I needed plus a few inches.

Step #3

Tie a knot about 6 inches from one end of the cord. Add your beads. Tie a knot at the other end to hold the beads in place.

Step #4

You can then tie the ends of the bracelet and cut the loose ends. I made an adjustable knot. I did this by creating a loop on each end of the bracelet. Then place the loose end inside the loop on the opposite end and tighten the loop. Repeat for the other side. You can then adjust the size. Add 1-2 drops of essential oils. Then wear your DIY essential oil bracelet. You can also use a rollerball to add essential oils while wearing.
