Candy Cane Peppermint Bath Gems Recipe

How to make peppermint bath gems.  These are like peppermint bath salts, but they are formed into cute little gems for a cute presentation.  These make a cute and easy DIY gift idea, or make them for yourself.  There are several peppermint bath benefits that we'll also discuss below.

How to Make Peppermint Bath Gems

I have a lot of volunteers that I like to give small gifts to each Christmas, so this year I'm making a peppermint bath salts recipe.

But instead of a plain candy cane bath salts recipe, I have to be a little extra and make bath gems.  Bath gems are made like bath salts, but they are formed in a little mold.

You can also make these as a peppermint bath salts recipe without forming them.  You can simply omit the water to make regular bath salts.

What is Peppermint Epsom Salt Good For?

Epsom salts have magnesium that's about to be absorbed through your skin.  Epsom salt soaks are wonderful for sore or tired muscles.

Peppermint essential oil is often used for tired muscles or aching joints.  It's also said to reduce stress and be uplifting when used for aromatherapy.

Taking a peppermint Epsom salt bath is wonderful after working out or working hard all day because it's great for your joints and muscles

Is Peppermint Stimulating or Relaxing?

In aromatherapy, peppermint is uplifting and can boost your mood.  When taking a peppermint bath soak, the menthol in peppermint can be soothing to your muscles and help them relax.

What Happens if You Use Too Much Peppermint Oil in a Bath?

I love using essential oils for DIY beauty products and aromatherapy, but they should be treated with respect.  Adding more than what's called for in a recipe can cause problems.

In the case of peppermint, it can cause burning or irritation due to the menthol content.

Always dilute your essential oils properly.  Use an essential oil dilution chart to know how much to add for the amount of carrier oil that you use.

Do You Have to Rinse Off After an Epsom Salt Bath?

You don't have to rinse your skin after using peppermint bath salts, but you can if you want to.  The Epsom salts shouldn't dry out your skin or cause itching, but you can rinse after soaking.

Essential Oils for Peppermint Epsom Salt Bath

You can use plain peppermint essential oil to make this peppermint Epson salt bath.  I recommend using peppermint from Simply Earth, Revive, or Plant Therapy.

Simply Earth also as a Candy Cane blend to make a candy cane bath salts recipe.  It smells amazing with Orange, Lemon, Spearmint, and Frankincense Essential Oils.

Even though it doesn't have peppermint, it's my favorite candy cane scent, and it still has skin benefits for these bath gems.

How Long Do Bath Gems With Essential Oils Last?

These bath gems will last about 6 to 9 months.  The water evaporates so they keep their shape, but be careful not to get them water with more water because this will shorten their shelf life.

Store in an airtight container for a longer shelf life.

If you want to make peppermint Epsom salt and not bath gems, simply omit the water and combine all of the ingredients.

Then place in a jar or other container.

Peppermint Bath Gems Ingredients

The amounts are listed below in the craft card for easy printing.

Epsom Salts - Epsom salts have magnesium that can be absorbed through the skin.  Bath salts will be too large and probably won't stick together to make gems.  However, you can use sea salt to make bath salts.

Baking Soda - Baking soda in bath salts naturally exfoliates and deodorizes.  It also changes the pH of the water to soften your skin.

Sweet Almond Oil - I used sweet almond oil as the carrier oil for the peppermint essential oil.  It's a good all purpose carrier oil that has vitamins to nourish your skin.  You can use any liquid carrier oil.  Learn more about carrier oils and their benefits to choose the right oil for your needs.

Water - Use water to bind the salts together to form the bath gems.  I recommend using distilled water or filtered water.  I use the water from my Berkey filter.

Mica Powder - Use mica powder to color the peppermint bath salts.  It's a natural colorant that works well with bath salts.

Peppermint Essential Oil - I buy from Simply Earth, Revive, or Plant Therapy.

Ice Cube Tray - I used this ice cube tray for the mold.  This recipe made 21 peppermint bath gems in this mold.

How to Make Candy Cane Bath Gems

Step #1

Combine the Epsom salt, baking soda, sweet almond oil, water, mica, and essential oil in a bowl.  Stir well until fully mixed and the mica powder is evenly distributed.

Step #2

Spoon into the ice cube mold and pat down gently but firmly.

Step #3

Let dry overnight.  Remove from the mold and store in an airtight container.

When ready to use, add 4 or 5 to warm water for a foot soak or add 10 to 20 to a bath.  You can safely use the entire batch for one bath, or you can use half to get two baths out of one batch.

I really like to use bath gems for my feet because they are similar to my peppermint pedicure bombs.
