Chamomile Bath Salts Recipe
Imagine sinking into a warm bath, the day’s stress dissolving into the soothing embrace of chamomile-infused water.
Known for their calming aroma and therapeutic properties, these salts offer a sanctuary for your body and mind. The experience is a gentle reminder that self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate to be effective.
The Benefits of Making Your Own Bath Salts
Creating your own bath salts helps you enjoy a luxurious bath at a fraction of the cost of store bought bath products.
Not only can you tailor the ingredients to suit your preferences, but you also gain control over the quality and purity of what goes into your bath.
Homemade bath salts are free from synthetic additives and excessive packaging, making them a sustainable choice for both your wellness routine and the environment.
Benefits of Chamomile Bath Salts
Besides self care, floral bath salts can provide other benefits for your mind and body.
- Chamomile, a dainty flower with a reputation for tranquility, is more than a bedtime tea staple. It boasts anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that nurture your skin.
- The Epsom salts dissolve in warm water, releasing essential minerals like magnesium and potassium. These minerals can ease muscle tension, reduce swelling, and promote circulation. Combined with chamomile, the salts provide a holistic experience that soothes both physical discomfort and mental fatigue.
- Chamomile’s calming aroma acts as a natural stress reliever, reducing anxiety and encouraging deep relaxation. Paired with warm water, the scent envelops you in a cocoon of tranquility, allowing you to unwind completely.
- After a long day or a tough workout, chamomile bath salts work wonders on sore muscles. The combination of salts and chamomile’s anti-inflammatory properties provides relief from aches and stiffness, leaving you refreshed and rejuvenated.
- Chamomile is a gentle emollient, making it ideal for hydrating and soothing the skin. When combined with salts, it exfoliates dead skin cells, leaving your skin soft, supple, and radiant.
I also used chamomile to make lavender chamomile milk bath, chamomile infused hard lotion, herbal bath bombs, and lavender chamomile tub tea.
Choosing the Right Type of Salt
Each type of salt offers unique benefits.
- Epsom salt, rich in magnesium, is excellent for muscle recovery.
- Himalayan salt contains trace minerals that detoxify and rejuvenate.
- Dead Sea salt, sourced from mineral-rich waters, is prized for its therapeutic properties.
Your choice depends on your specific needs, whether it’s relaxation, detoxification, or skin nourishment.
If you’re seeking muscle relief, opt for Epsom salt. For a luxurious, spa-like experience, Himalayan salt is your go-to. Dead Sea salt is perfect for addressing skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis. Mixing salts can also offer a balanced blend of benefits.
Ingredients and Supplies
Here's what you'll need to make DIY bath salts with flowers. The amounts are listed below in the recipe card.
Chamomile Flowers. Only used dried chamomile flowers to make your DIY bath products.
Salt. I used Epsom salt, but you can use Himalayan salt or sea salt.
Essential oils. Essential oils are optional. If you use them, you'll want to dilute them with a carrier oil like sweet almond oil or fractionated coconut oil. You can use Chamomile essential oil or even lavender essential oil or bergamot essential oil.
Optional add ins. You can add more ingredients like colloidal oatmeal or dried rose petals or dried lavender.
Herb or coffee grinder. I ground the chamomile flowers and Epsom salt with an herb grinder for smaller pieces. This helps the salt dissolve quicker, and it prevents clogs in your pipes. You can also make the bath salts and place in an organza bag or large tea bag so the herbs don't go down the drain.
Directions
Step #1
Place the dried chamomile flowers and Epsom salt in the herb grinder. Grind until powdered.
Step #2
If you're using essential oils, combine them with 1 tablespoon carrier oil. Mix well. Combine the powdered bath salts and oils and stir well.
Step #3
Place the mixture in a container with a lid.
Store you bath salts in an airtight container to keep moisture out.
To use, add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bath salts to warm bath water. Allow to dissolve before getting into the bath.
