This peppermint salt scrub soap bar recipe is an easy recipe to make at home. It exfoliates while it cleanses to leave skin feeling soft and smooth. I made mine with peppermint, but you can also use other essential oil blends for a custom bar.
Peppermint Body Scrub Bars
Imagine starting your day with the invigorating scent of peppermint while gently exfoliating your skin.
They provide a sensory experience, combining the cooling essence of peppermint with the exfoliating prowess of sea salt.
The result? Skin that feels smooth, revitalized, and refreshed.
What Is a Peppermint Salt Scrub Soap Bar?
At the heart of these soap bars lies a blend of two potent ingredients. Peppermint essential oil is used for its antimicrobial properties and invigorating aroma, which can awaken the senses and soothe the skin.
Sea salt, on the other hand, is a natural exfoliant that removes dead skin cells and unclogs pores, promoting a radiant complexion. Together, they create a soap that is both therapeutic and effective.
It's used like a soap in the shower or bath, but it works to exfoliate and cleanse in just one step.
Benefits of Using Peppermint Salt Scrub Soap Bars
- Peppermint essential oil delivers a cooling sensation that not only invigorates the skin but also reduces redness and irritation. This makes it an ideal ingredient for those looking to rejuvenate tired, dull skin.
- Sea salt is packed with minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium, which help detoxify the skin. These minerals work to draw out toxins, balance oil production, and improve overall skin texture.
- The fine granules of sea salt gently slough away dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover without causing micro-tears. This ensures that your skin feels smooth and looks radiant after each use.
- The invigorating scent of peppermint has been shown to reduce stress and enhance mental clarity.
How to Use a Peppermint Salt Scrub Soap Bar
Start by wetting your skin with warm water to open up your pores. This ensures the soap bar’s ingredients can penetrate deeply for maximum effectiveness.
Gently rub the soap bar in circular motions on your skin, focusing on rough areas like elbows, knees, and heels. Avoid applying too much pressure to prevent irritation. Do not use this salt scrub bar on your face because the salt is too abrasive for your facial.
For most skin types, using a peppermint salt scrub soap bar 2-3 times a week is sufficient. Over-exfoliation can lead to dryness and sensitivity, so it’s important to find a balance.
Ingredients
Melt and Pour Soap. I used a shea butter melt and pour soap base for extra moisturizing for my skin. You can use any soap base. I recommend using a high quality soap base like Crafty Bubbles or Stephenson's soap base.
Sea Salt. You can use fine sea salt or Pink Himalayan salt in melt and pour soap.
Carrier Oil. You can add a small amount of a carrier oil to make the soap more moisturizing. Sweet almond oil or avocado oil are good choices. Learn more about carrier oils and their benefits.
Essential Oil. I used peppermint essential oil for an invigorating scent. You can use your favorite essential oil or blend.
Peppermint Leaves. Generally, it's not advised to use dried herbs in melt and pour soap because they can go bad. However, the salt can act like a preservative. This recipe makes a small quantity that I used quickly, so I added dried peppermint leaves. For long term storage or for gifting or selling, I recommend skipping the dried herbs.
Half Sphere Mold. I used this half sphere mold, but you can use any soap mold.
Directions
Step #1
Cut the soap into 1 inch cubes. Place in a glass bowl or measuring cup and microwave in 30 second intervals until melted.
Step #2
Add the carrier oil, essential oil, dried peppermint, and salt. Stir well to combine.
Step #3
Pour into soap mold. Let sit for several hours until fully set up.
Step #4
Carefully unmold. You can use your body scrub bars right away.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If you experience redness or irritation, reduce usage frequency and follow up with a rich, nourishing moisturizer. Discontinue use if irritation persists.
Listen to your skin’s needs. Adjust how often and where you use the soap bar to ensure optimal results.
Dried herbs can absorb moisture. Omit them for long term storage or if you are gifting or selling the soap.
